4.23.09 - Oakdale High School
student to race NASCAR event at Madera
Steven
Blakesley / Justin Wall Racing
Oakdale, Calif. -
16
year-old Justin Wall of
Oakdale,
Calif.
will make his NASCAR debut on Saturday at Madera Speedway in Madera, Calif.,
competing in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Model event.
A
strong field is expected to be on hand for the 50 lap feature on the
one-third mile asphalt oval. The race is the undercard for the prestigious
NASCAR Camping World Series West event that night.
“We’re all ready to go and we’re well prepared.” Wall said. “We’re going to
play it safe and log laps, with the hopes of being there at the end of the
race.”
Wall has tested nearly half a dozen times throughout the spring at both
Madera and Stockton Speedways in preparation for his debut race. He used the
laps to get acclimated to the 425 horsepower Late Model cars.
“Testing has definitely helped my confidence level,” Wall said. “We’re still
struggling a little bit with our
Madera
set-up but we’re really excited about what we have at
Stockton.
We are making a few changes this week that should help us at
Madera.”
The
Oakdale High School student is one of the few 16 year-olds in the nation
competing at this level of racing. He previously competed in Baby Grand and
Mini Cup cars for Western Scale Racing, and was a national soap box derby
competitor.
Wall is hoping for a strong run on Saturday to attract sponsorship for the
entire Madera Speedway season.
A
sell-out crowd is expected at Madera Speedway, which is located off of
Highway 99 at the fairgrounds.
